Lawn Aeration

Lawn Aeration is simply the best thing you can do for the heavy clay soils found in our local lawns.  The best lawn aeration allows more oxygen to the roots, significantly increases water movement in the soil, and provides compression relief for the soil colloids allowing turf roots to spread and thrive.

Aeration is even more beneficial for maximizing your water usage and reducing runoff and evaporation when water restrictions are in place.  Golf courses typically perform 5 per year, and we recommend one in the spring and one in the fall for residential lawns.

For years, legacy mechanical aeration was the best game in town. As helpful as it was, ultimately, it was woefully inadequate. The most significant impact of mechanical lawn aeration is compression relief – Only about 20% of the lawn is covered with mechanical aeration and only at a depth of 2.5 inches; this is certainly better than nothing but does little to address the real compaction culprit- Chemical binding.

Our aeration service will leave your lawn feeling as light and refreshed as a breath of fresh air. Don’t just take our word for it – hear what our delighted clients have to say!

“We tried your aeration and got better results than our previous service. We believe some of the different treatments you offer work better for us than the standard “Randy Lemon” process we were using.” -Jack E., Sugar Land, TX

Chemical Binding

Chemical binding is the result of high pH levels, excessive salts, and bicarbonates often found in our local soils. Excessive salts prevent the plant from absorbing water from the surrounding soil, causing dehydration, even if abundant water is nearby. Over time, salts bind the soil colloids together, making the ground hard and impenetrable.

Our professional liquid aeration products assist in sequestering the excess sodium and/or bicarbonates, pulling them away from the root system. Soil colloids are quickly backfilled with nutrients and microbial activity, promoting aggressive root growth and reducing plant stress. Lastly, micro tunnels are forged with highly oxidizing materials on 100% of the turf area (not 20%), allowing much-needed oxygen and hydration to a 6” depth!

Plug Lawn Aeration

However, there are drawbacks to lawn aeration when using a machine to “pull plugs.”  As wonderful as this can be for the soil, it is only effective to about 2.5 inches deep and leaves the “plugs” on top of the turf.  Mechanical aeration will only cover about 20% of the lawn and leaves a mess. Additionally, sprinkler heads, phone lines, high-speed internet lines, outdoor lighting, etc., are all at the mercy of the machine and operator.

Liquid Lawn Aeration

The best lawn aeration is liquid aeration by GreenGate Turf. Liquid Lawn Aeration is a state-of-the-art application that creates tiny pathways deep into the soil with bio-stimulants and oxidizing materials at key growth stages to deliver oxygen, moisture, and nutrients to the roots. Without these “tunnels,”  the root system has no way of accessing what it needs most to thrive. With the best aeration, we can cover every square inch of your turf. Our liquid aeration will also help break up soil compression caused by restrictive chemical bonds at the soil colloid level that stunts valuable nutrient uptake into the plant.

Unique to our liquid aeration is that each application builds on top of the other and picks up where the last application left off. Liquid lawn aeration helps amplify our quality fertilizers and is excellent insurance for the turf during late-season heat stress.

Multiple Aerations To Choose From

Liquid Lawn Aeration

GreenGate’s guaranteed Liquid Lawn Aeration is a state-of-the-art aerating process covering 100% of the lawn rather than just 20% found with legacy mechanical aeration. Aeration is beneficial to maximize your water usage and lessen runoff and evaporation with current water restrictions. Golf courses typically perform 5 per year, and we recommend 2 per year for residential lawns. Our liquid aeration process will give you the breakthrough you’ve been looking for for your yard. See above all the great benefits of GreenGates Liquid Lawn Aeration.

Super Aeration

GreenGate’s Super Aeration is our state-of-the-art liquid aerating process, plus a POWERFUL de-thatcher added to the mix. Our de-thatcher works to not only break down and thin out thatch but to turn it into a readily available food source for your turf. Often, you will see a noticeable greening of your turf a few days after our application. (Summer Months) Our advanced product focuses on composting thatch faster by encouraging microbial activity at the soil surface & increasing heat. This exothermic release by increased soil activity will break down and quickly reduce thatch from the soil level up. The organic matter is recycled as a food source and helps to remove spawning locations for lawn damaging insects and fungus.

Super Duper Aeration

*A Client Favorite!*

GreenGate’s Super Duper Liquid Aeration is a scientifically advanced process to supercharge your turf and turf roots. Our Liquid Aeration will open up your soils and greatly expand root volume, while our de-thatcher will compost the thatch between the soil and grass. Lastly, our heavily applied biological granular product will be the compost that energizes and rejuvenates your soil’s microorganisms. This process easily replaces legacy mechanical aeration w/a traditional compost but is applied at a far more budget-friendly price. The Super Duper Lawn Aeration is an EXCELLENT springtime jump start & works well to bring back struggling lawns. Our Super Duper includes all three below-

  1. Our State Of The Art Liquid Aeration
  2. Our Powerful Composting De-Thatcher
  3. Granular Organic Biological Soil Amendment

Restore & Rejuvinate Program (R&R)

Our four-part R&R program is a powerful combination of treatments designed especially for lawns that have struggled due to poor soils with high pH & Salt levels over the years. This program is also perfect for yards treated with poor-quality chemical fertilizers that may have depleted the soil of its carbon diversity, resulting in a below-average-looking lawn. First, we perform a traditional plug aeration on the entire lawn; within five business days, a technician will apply a heavy rate of 2 granular products and top everything off with our Super Lawn Aeration treatment.

  1. Our first granular product is supercharged with Ammonium Sulfate and is essentially a high-grade compost in a bag. It is rich in carbohydrates and provides a quick burst of energy to beneficial bacteria.   Multiple forms of carbon offer a sustainable food source for long-term biological activity. The minerals from this treatment replenish the soil with vital nutrients that have been depleted. Soil re-mineralization is the essential focus of this service and what truly makes the R & R program so beneficial to struggling lawns.

  2. Our second granular product is a powerful amendment that will open tight soils, speed turf recovery, and stimulate soil biology without a big nitrogen push. This combination allows oxygen movement through the soil and promotes an active microbial-generated nitrogen cycle. 50% of this product is made up of Eco-Lite, the premier zeolite rock mineral mined from an exceptionally clean zeolite mine and provides an array of physical benefits, including the highest CEC of all physical amendments. Zeolites are hard rock minerals that possess a crystalline structure and can absorb water when the surrounding soil is wet, creating better air movement in the soil and allowing for the controlled release of water when moisture levels in the soil fall. Perhaps the most significant difference between Eco-Lite and other physical amendments is its affinity to hold both ammonium nitrogen and potassium, allowing both nutrients to be more available to the plant over a more extended period.

It would be reasonable to contrast this turf-promoting R&R program with spreading compost on your lawn; however, thanks to science, our R&R treatment is amplified by ten and is available at a far more budget-friendly cost. We recommend an early spring and early fall treatment if yard conditions are poor, but lawns in any state will always benefit from some R&R!

Advanced Lawn Aeration FAQ

When is the best time to aerate my lawn?

Spring and fall are the best times to aerate your lawn in Houston. For springtime aeration, we recommend March and April. For fall time aeration, we recommend September and October. However, with GreenGates’ Advanced Lawn Aeration, you can successfully aerate your Houston lawn any time of the year!

How often should my lawn be aerated?

To keep your turf looking and feeling its best, we recommend aerating your lawn twice per year, once in the Spring and again in the Fall.

What is liquid lawn aeration and how does it work?

Liquid aeration solutions contain a combination of minerals, essential nutrients, humic acids, and microbes that work to break down thatch and break up compacted soil naturally, allowing for nutrients and water to reach the roots of the grass.

What is GreenGates Advanced Lawn Aeration?

GreenGate’s Advanced Liquid Lawn Aeration is a state-of-the-art aerating process that, due to being a liquid, can cover 100% of your lawn (rather than the typical 20% accomplished with an aerator machine). Just as legacy mechanical machines are intended, our liquid solution targets our tightly bound Houston soils and stimulates microbial activity by creating micro-tunnels throughout your soil, thus allowing for an increase in drainage and allow for nutrient and water absorption.

What is the difference between the Advanced Lawn Aeration, Super Lawn Aeration, and Super Duper Lawn Aeration?

GreenGate’s Super Lawn Aeration is our state-of-the-art liquid aerating process PLUS a powerful de-thatching agent added to the mix, giving you double the thatch fighting power. Our Super Duper Lawn Aeration provides the same benefits as our Advanced Lawn Aeration and Super Lawn Aeration but adds a Granular Organic Biological Soil Amendment. that will act as a high-quality compost to assist in energizing and rejuvenating your soils microorganisms.

Does liquid lawn aeration actually work?

Absolutely! Plus, no risk of damage to your lawn or property from a giant aerator machine. Additionally, results are longer lasting.

What are the benefits of liquid aeration over mechanical plug aeration?

There are several benefits of liquid over mechanical aerations. While both forms of aeration offer multiple benefits to your lawn, liquid lawn aerations have some other things to consider. Liquid solutions are not just creating holes (or plugs) but introducing vital nutrients into your soil, breaking down thatch, and creating a food source to stimulate essential microbes. Soil activity created by these microbes will result in micro-tunnels throughout your lawn, necessary for water and nutrients to reach the plant’s roots and drain when needed. Plus, no unsightly dirt nuggets are left behind to hang out on your lawn.

How long after aerating will I see results?

No two lawns are the same, but generally speaking, when applied during growing season you should see results within 2-3 weeks with our Super Aeration, and as little as a week with our Super Duper Aeration.
