Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control FAQ
We use a hybrid combination of Bio-nutritional, synthetic, and carbon-based products. This combination contains all the essential nutrients required to feed your turf.
Yes! We apply pre-emergents in the months leading up to the prime growing season to keep weeds from germinating. Post-emergents (weed killer) is spot sprayed to kill-off any existing weeds or weeds that manage to wiggle through.Â
Each of our 8 visits includes season-specific treatments for your lawn. This includes pre and post-emergents, natural carbon-based fertilizers, and turf root stimulators.
Bundle and Fertilization customers will receive at least 8 treatments throughout the year.Â
Absolutely! Our treatments are safe for kids and pets when applied as directed—and we always do, because we’re pros! Just wait until the product has completely dried before letting little ones or furry friends back out to play. This usually takes about 30–60 minutes, depending on weather conditions.
Our applications are scheduled roughly 4-6 weeks apart, year round. While we come out 8 times per year, our treatments are a mix of fertilizer, pre-emergents, and post-emergents, depending on the time of year and what our Houston grass needs during that time of year.
Grassy weeds, such as Crabgrass and Dallis Grass, are resilient to herbicide and are best controlled through pre-emergents. We do our best to get ahead of them with professional-grade pre-emergents in the months prior to germination, but we cannot guarantee their complete departure in most cases.
Not at all! We ask that you allow your weeds time to die and rot away. The weed itself will take a few days to wilt and die, and you should see it start to rot away within 10-14 days. If you are still seeing weeds after that, we will be happy to send someone out to re-service your property.Â
All new customers signing up for our lawn fertilization program will receive a free soil test & analysis.
On your first fertilization or bundle treatment we will pull a plug of soil from your property and have it sent off to an independent lab. This process can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks.Â
While essential nutrients like nitrogen, calcium, and potassium play a role in your lawn’s health, GreenGate focuses on the two factors that matter most: your soil’s pH level and its cation exchange capacity (CEC). Our recommendations are built around these measurements, while our 8-step fertilization and weed control program takes care of the rest of your lawn’s nutrient needs.
The 8 Step lawn fertilization and weed control program will continue as scheduled. The program is designed to take care of the basic needs of your lawn based on our knowledge of Houston grass. A soil amendment may be recommended due to your soil’s pH level and cation exchange capacity (CEC).

The most important thing you’ll need to do is water in the applications. If you’d like a completely hands-off experience, add a sprinkler bundle, and we can take care of the watering for you too.
